(February 27, 2025)

His Excellency Cde. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, President of the Republic of Namibia,

Her Excellency Cde. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President of the SWAPO Party and President-Elect of the Republic of Namibia,

Honorable Cde. Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila (/ˈsɑːrɑː kuːɡɔŋɡɛlwɑː ɑːmɑːðiːlɑː/), Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia,

Honorable Cde. Sophia Shaningwa, Secretary General of the SWAPO Party,

Honorable Cde. Uahekua Herunga(/wɑˈhɛkwɑ hɛˈrʊŋɡɑ/), Deputy Secretary General of the SWAPO Party,

All Comrades from the SWAPO Party and Sister Parties,

As entrusted by the Communist Party of China, I am attending this solemn memorial service with a heavy heart, and I feel honored to have the opportunity of speaking a few words to express our profound sorrow for the unfortunate passing of our beloved Comrade Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Founding President of SWAPO Party, Republic of Namibia, Father of the Namibian Nation, Leader of the Namibian Revolution, and also an all-weather friend of the Chinese people.

His Excellency Comrade Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China, sent a message of condolence to H.E. President Mbumba immediately after we learned of the sad news. Comrade Xi also assigned Comrade Bateer, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, to sign the condolence book at the Namibian Embassy in Beijing. The CPC Central Committee sent a condolence message to the SWAPO Party. And as requested, we also provided assistance to complement our Namibian friends on their mission of transporting the remains of Comrade Nujoma to various memorial services across the country.

Comrade Nujoma was a great old-generation African politician and a fearless freedom fighter who made historic contributions in leading the Namibian people in achieving national independence and liberation, and exploring a development path suited to Namibia's conditions. He opened a bright future for the Namibian nation, ended the colonial past of the African Continent, and left deep footprints on the progress of the mankind. He was highly respected by many people in the world.

Comrade Nujoma has left very important legacy on China-Namibia relations. He visited China for the first time in the 1960s, and met with Chairman Mao Zedong and other Chinese leaders. It was Comrade Nujoma and the old-generation Chinese leaders who established the unbreakable bond of friendship between the CPC and the SWAPO Party, which has withstood the test of time, and grown stronger with each passing year.

Comrade Nujoma lit the torch of China-Namibia friendship, and laid solid foundation for the strong relations between our two nations. He visited China five times when he was Namibian President and made a total of 19 visits to China throughout his life. He firmly supported the One-China principle and has always guided the development of China-Namibia relations with great vision and wisdom. His passing is an enormous loss for the Namibian people, and the Chinese people have also lost a good friend as well as an old friend.

Comrade Nujoma will live in our hearts forever. Whenever we think of him, we are moved by his kindness and friendliness. Whenever we think of him, we are inspired by his spirit and feel a strong sense of responsibility to carry on China-Namibia friendship and constantly push forward the bilateral relations. With our joint efforts, China-Namibia relations will achieve even greater development which will bring more tangible benefits to our two peoples.

In conclusion, I wish to express my deep condolences and sincere sympathies once again to Madam Kovambo Nujoma, Honorable Minister Utoni Nujoma and all members of the great Nujoma family. We share your heartbreaking loss. Take care.
