On September 4, 2025, Ambassador Zhao Weiping attended the Launch of the Report on Corporate Social Responsibility of Chinese Enterprises in Namibia, and delivered his remarks at the event. The full text of the speech is as follows:

Honorable Deputy Minister Gaudentia Kröhne,

Honorable Governor John Julius //Khamuseb,

Executive Directors, Commissioners and All Senior Namibian,

Government Officials,

Mr. Diao Chunhe, Executive President of the Alliance of Chinese Business in Africa for Social Responsibilities,

Mr. Luo Wei, President of the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Namibia,

Friends of the Media,

Distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening.

It is my great pleasure to attend this important event witnessing the launch of the Report on Corporate Social Responsibility of Chinese Enterprises in Namibia by the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Namibia (ACEN), the Alliance of Chinese Business in Africa for Social Responsibilities, and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board.

This Report was prepared by the ACEN and the Joint Conference of Chinese Overseas Chambers of Commerce, and it is the first report on such topic ever released in Namibia. So, this is a historic moment and I wish to congratulate the ACEN and the Chinese business community in Namibia which the ACEN represents for presenting us this important document.

This Report has not only told us what the member Chinese enterprises of the ACEN have done in fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities, but also, more importantly, shown us their determination to meet the obligations as responsible corporate entities as well as their readiness to expose themselves to the spotlight of the general public and voluntarily accept the monitoring of the society.

Enterprises don’t exist in vacuum, but rather, they can only survive and thrive in societies. So it is only natural and fair that they should take the responsibility to do good to the societies on which they rely. For Chinese enterprises in Namibia, they have additional responsibilities to contribute more to the local communities as China and Namibia are close friends, and the Chinese enterprises should act as Ambassador of friendship to bring our two peoples even closer.

I wish to tell our Namibian friends and my fellow Chinese in Namibia that the Chinese Government has attached great importance to the corporate social responsibility of the Chinese enterprises around the world. The establishment of the Alliance of Chinese Business in Africa for Social Responsibilities was a vivid example in this regard.

In line with the Chinese Government policies, the Chinese Embassy in Namibia has always been closely monitoring the implementation of social responsibilities by Chinese enterprises in Namibia. Our attitude is firm and clear-cut. We consistently encourage Chinese enterprises to abide by Namibia’s laws and regulations, respect and live in harmony with the Namibian people and make contribution to the social and economic development of Namibia.

I am happy with the achievements of the Chinese enterprises in fulfilling the corporate social responsibilities as we learn from this Report. What I want to emphasize here is that let’s never set a ceiling to prevent ourselves from doing more in terms of corporate social responsibilities. Instead, we should always do more on the basis of what we have already done. Especially, we should all follow the good examples of the enterprises which are leading us and never stop improving our own record.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have said publicly on more many occasions that Namibia is going to witness a big jump in its social and economic development in the next five to ten years and the challenges currently faced by our Namibian friends experienced are only temporary.

As the world’s largest developing country and a key development partner of Namibia, China is ready to forge even stronger economic partnership with Namibia. I firmly believe we will have an even more promising future for our bilateral relations. And I hope the Chinese enterprises will always bear in mind China-Namibia friendship and make even greater contribution to the local communities.
