2026-09-14 17:29

Honorable Sam Nujoma, Governor of Khomas Region,

Honorable Wenzel Kavaka, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Namibia,

His Worship Sakarias Uunona, Mayor of Windhoek,

Mr. Christof Maletsky, CEO of the New Era,

Mr. Lan Wensheng, Head of the Jiangxi Delegation and Second-Class Inspector of Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province,

Ms. Zheng Ying, Executive Deputy Director of Jiangxi International Communication Center,

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning.

First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, I wish to extend my warm congratulations on the successful launch of the “Jiangxi Culture Goes to International Sister Cities (Namibia),” jointly hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, the Jiangxi People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Jiangxi Daily Newspaper, and I sincerely welcome the entire Jiangxi delegation to visit Namibia to promote the friendly exchanges between our two countries.

I also wish to express my deep appreciation to Governor Nujoma and all our Namibian friends who have been strong supporters of China-Namibia friendship and cooperation, and I am honored that Governor Nujoma took time to grace this occasion out of his busy schedule. In particular, I thank CEO Maletsky and The New Era for their support and assistance in making this event possible.

Jiangxi Province, located in southeastern China, is a beautiful land of a long history and rich cultural heritage, an important cradle of the Chinese revolution and also a vibrant hub of reform and opening up in inland China.

In particular, I want to tell our Namibian friends that Jiangxi Province and Namibia enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. H.E. Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and Father of the Namibian nation visited Jiangxi Province as early as in October 1996. In August 2025, Governor Nujoma also visited Jiangxi Province, and Jiangxi Province and Khomas Region officially embarked on a new chapter of friendship by signing a Letter of Intent on the Establishment of Friendship Relations.

Over the past two years, Jiangxi Province has hosted delegations of Namibian media and think tanks, as well as youth representatives, to visit the province, and as our Namibian friends know that several Jiangxi companies have been operating in Namibia for many years. I believe, with the Jiangxi Delegation’s visit this time, we will see even closer exchanges and cooperation between the Province and Namibia.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This event is particularly meaningful as it comes shortly after the successful state visit to China by H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia in July. During the visit, H.E. President Xi Jinping and H.E. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah jointly announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era, and reached important consensus on promoting cooperation across a wide range of areas, including people-to-people and sub-national exchanges.

China has always maintained that “Friendship, which derives from close contact between the people, holds the key to sound state-to-state relations.” People-to-people exchanges are the important source of vitality that sustains and enriches bilateral relations. Going forward, China will take more concrete measures to expand people-to people exchanges between our two countries, and the Chinese Embassy in Namibia will continue to play its role in this regard.

Thank you.
